Housing

In
my last 2 years as a member, Ive seen the positive social changes Options
has made. Im proud to be a part of the Clubhouse at a time when it is expanding
its services and providing a full circle of resources to its members. In 2004,
I moved to the new housing, both literally and figuratively
.for me this
paves the foundation of a successful transition.

Through funding
from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Massachusetts Facilities
Consolidation Funds and the Federal Home Loan Bank, Employment Options has developed
quality affordable housing for its membership.
The 5,000-square foot apartment
building consists of 4 two-bedroom apartments and 2 one-bedroom apartments, to
house 10 individuals. The first floor is handicapped accessible and the entire
building has a sprinkler system for fire safety. The apartments are built on property
presently owned by Employment Options and located on 153 Mechanic Street in
Marlborough.
The operation and the maintenance of the building will
be funded by a Project Rental Assistance Contract with HUD. Apartments are available
for rent at 30% of a members individual income, while the rest is covered
by HUD.
The project has received support form local landlords, local businesses
and the government. A ground breaking ceremony was held on the project site on
November 25, 2003. Read about it In the News. This $1million project benefits Options clubhouse
members who are homeless or at a risk of losing their employment due to lack of
housing options.
